This website

This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics or advertising trackers. If you choose light or dark mode, that choice is stored in your own browser and never sent to us.

What we collect in Foundation

  • Identity information. Your name and email address, used to create and secure your account.
  • Learning progress. What you study and how far you have come, such as terms demonstrated and retested, drill results, and self-test results.
  • Study companion conversations. What you type or say to the study companion, and its replies. When you use voice, your speech is turned into text.
  • Class and guardian links. If you join a class or link a guardian, the fact of that link, so the right people can support you.

Why we use it

  • Teaching. To teach you, track what you know, and show you what to study next.
  • Running the service. To keep your account secure, fix faults, and prevent abuse.
  • Improving guides. We use anonymised, aggregated data to improve subject guides and find system issues.

We process your personal information with your consent, which you give when you sign up and can withdraw at any time. We do not sell personal information, use it for advertising, or share it with employers. Sensa never ranks learners.

Learners under 18

If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must agree to your use of Sensa. A parent or guardian may contact us at any time to see, correct, or delete a child's information.

Where your information is kept

Sensa runs on Amazon Web Services in the US East (N. Virginia) region, so your information is stored and processed outside South Africa. Amazon Web Services acts as our operator and is bound by contract to protect it, including for model calls made through Amazon Bedrock.

When you use voice with the study companion, audio is processed by ElevenLabs, our voice operator, to produce speech and transcripts. If you write to us by email, your message is handled by our email provider.

We transfer information across borders only to operators bound by agreements that give protection comparable to POPIA, as section 72 requires.

How long we keep it

  • Active learner data. For as long as you use Sensa, plus 12 months.
  • Study companion conversations. 12 months from capture.
  • Consent records. 5 years from withdrawal.
  • Data export bundles. 14 days from generation.

How we protect it

Information is encrypted in transit and at rest. Staff access is limited to named administrators with assigned roles, and every administrative change writes a tamper-evident audit record.

Your rights

  • Access. Ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correction. Ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
  • Deletion. Ask us to delete your personal information.
  • Objection. Object to processing for a specific purpose.
  • Withdrawal. Withdraw your consent at any time. This does not affect processing that took place before.

To use any of these rights, write to privacy@sensaai.co.za. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you may complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa at inforegulator.org.za.

Changes to this notice

When we change this notice we update the date above. If a change affects how we use information you have already given us, we ask for your consent again inside Foundation.
